- Abstract
The article focuses on the implications of unemployment in the U.S. economy. It states that during the Great Recession, one third of the industrial equipment of the country's economy lay inactive. It says that unemployment began with the emergence of capitalism in antebellum America. It mentions the New Deal's response to the natural insecurity of people's life which comprises unemployment insurance, work relief and welfare.
