- Abstract
The article presents an examination of the coalfields and mining activity of the North Yorkshire Moors in Yorkshire, England. Largely located within the North York Moors National Park, the region is associated with ironstone, alum, jet and whinstone mining. The article provides a geological outline of the region and discusses when the coal pits were likely formed. It provides details on the various coal mines in the area including the Ankness Colliery, Blakey Colliery, Rudland Colliery, Swinakel Colliery and Upper Rudland Colliery.
