- Abstract
The article discusses workforce planning and the shortage of skilled professionals in British Columbia's health-care sector. The human resource (HR) strategy at Fraser Health which produced a predictive model for HR planning is discussed. The HR metrics used in the staffing model are employee turnover, leaves of absence, retirements, productivity, recruitment of new employees, and position growth. The organizational structure and operating budget of Fraser Health are mentioned. The process of compiling workforce demographics and creating a profile is explained. Statistics are given that are related to the employment of registered nurses.
