- Abstract
The article investigates the use of dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in children for the estimation of regional lean soft tissue mass (LSTM) and fat mass (FM). It provides a background of body composition studies in children and their role in understanding the aetiology and evolution of acute and chronic diseases. An assessment of the concordance between DXA and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the measurements of muscle/lean tissue mass and FM in adolescents and the reliability of conversion equations between the instruments is provided.
