Continued Challenges to U.S. Labor Unions and Collective Bargaining.
- Authors
Courtney, Stephen J.
- Abstract
This paper (and presentation) discusses particular aspects of the current evolution of contemporary labor relations and collective bargaining issues. The presidential election of 2008 has been seen as a significant sign of hope for organized labor in revitalizing collective bargaining and rebuilding the ranks of union membership. However, as discussed in this paper, two years after the election, the predominant events and trends in labor relations continue to be predominantly influenced by long-term economic, political, and global trends that have continued to portend poorly for United States Labor Unions and the continuing viability of private sector collective bargaining.
