- Abstract
Professor Amélie Kuhrt, a renowned historian of the Achaemenid empire, passed away in January 2023. She was known for her intellectual rigor and originality, as well as her kindness and sense of humor. Born in post-war Germany, she overcame various challenges to pursue her passion for the Classics and eventually became a professor at University College London. Throughout her career, she made significant contributions to the study of ancient imperialism and the Persian empire. Her works have been translated into multiple languages, and her influence on ancient history is widely recognized. She is survived by her daughters, partner, and grandchildren.
