- Title
China's Ethnic Policies in the Xinjiang Region.
- Authors
Lim, Rosalyn
- Abstract
The article analyzes China's approach to solving ethnic separatism in Xinjiang. It proposes that the Uyghur-Han Chinese conflict in Xinjiang is a complex and deeply-rooted issue that transcends religion, and should be viewed in both historical and political contexts. It notes that re-evaluation of ethnic policy in Xinjiang considers various factors such as China's state-building goals and acknowledgement of the Uyghurs' need for economic equity and political freedom. The author contends that China's policy fails to address the Xinjiang conflict because it has worked towards a marginalization of the Uyghurs from the Han Chinese.
