- Abstract
The article discusses the social, political, and academic activities of central Ukrainian youth in Lviv, Galicia, during the early 20th century. Particular focus is given to youth in their first year of immigration. According to the author, their participation in Galician social and political life helped to shape the views of these youth as they moved from a philosophy of social democracy, to one of liberal democracy, and finally to the advocacy of an independent Ukraine. Details on student efforts to create a national Ukrainian university are presented. Other topics include Ukrainian-language publishing, politician Mykhailo Hrushevsky, and student demonstrations.
