The article discusses various aspects of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the case United States v. Windsor which deals with the constitutionality of the nation's Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and its potential impact on marriage equality for same-sex couples in America, focusing on state laws and prohibitions on same-sex marriage in places such as New York. Federalism, due process, and equal protection in America are mentioned. A heightened level of judicial scrutiny is also examined.
