- Abstract
An essay is presented in which the author discusses the influence of Hebrew author Shmuel Yosef Agnon on author Aharon Appelfeld, and mentions Appelfeld's depiction of pious Jews, Sabra authors, and mainstream Israeli literature. Appelfeld's self-awareness, Zionism in the 1940s, and the psychological aspects of post-Holocaust fiction after World War II are also discussed.
