- Abstract
The author presents a case study of a professional woman-mother practitioner of divination by dropping shells in Yemen. Cowrie shells offer medicinal properties and protection against djinns and the evil eye, and is worn as a body amulet or sewn on cradles and garments. The woman entertains consultations from mostly men clients in her home and conducts a seance. She works on the psychology of people when they pick their representative shells, determines the issue and does her interpretation.
