Two faces of PTEN.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article comments on research studies in mice which show that the absence of a tumor suppressor gene, PTEN, in oocytes prematurely induces global follicular activation, decreasing the follicle reserve similar to premature ovarian failure. According to the authors, PTEN-deficiency in oocytes leads to premature activation of the entire pool of primodial follicle reserve, thereby rapidly advancing infertility. They mention PTEN's roles in various reproductive functions in animals.
