This article discusses the changing demographics of applicants to dental school. The changing ratios of applicants to available seats in dental schools in the U.S. between the 1970s and 1991 is noted. The apparent lack of relationship between dental school curricula and dentistry is presented as a possible reason for the shortage of aspiring dentists in the U.S.
