- Abstract
The article discusses the affect that the Soviet Union government's policy towards national identity in its Central Asian republics during the 1920s and 1930s has on the construction of national identity in the former Soviet Republics in Central Asia. An overview of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, including in regard to the cultural heritage of Central Asia's former Soviet republics, is provided.
