BANK RECAPITALIZATIONS: A COMPARATIVE PERSPECTIVE.
- Abstract
The article offers information on the bank recapitalization programs that was introduced across the world in response to the Asian banking crises in the late 1990s and 2008-2009 global financial crises. It discusses the scope and significance of the Trouble Asset Relief Fund and analyzes its role in strengthening the U.S. financial sector and providing economic recovery during financial crisis in the U.S. It criticizes the design of the Capital Purchase Program (CPP), preferred stock and equity warrant purchase program introduced as part of TARP, which has troubled the effectiveness of the bailout programs.
