The article discusses the role of architecture in the transformation of Los Angeles, California. It focuses on the Disney Concert Hall and the Chiat/Day/Mojo offices designed by architect Frank Gehry. The author describes the Concert Hall as a dramatic example of the heightened status of the city while the Chiat/Day/Mojo offices represent the fragmented urban landscape surrounding the area. He concludes that Gehry's work carries the conceptual and technological achievements of Modernism.
