- Abstract
The article discusses the Science Inquiry Scoring Guide developed by the Oregon Department of Education to assess the student's performance on inquiry-based lessons. The rubric scoring guides are used to analyze students' work samples in four attributes including formulation of hypothesis, designing an investigation, collecting and presenting data, and analyzing results. The attributes are assessed based on application of scientific knowledge, nature of scientific inquiry and communication shown in the work sample. The scoring guide is intended to determine the essential aspect of a task, provide clear assessment direction and encourage uniform assessment of students.
