- Abstract
The article examines the condition of rap music, graffiti, and social media in South Africa as of October 2014. A background of hip-hop is provided which was started by the African American community in Bronx, New York City in the mid-1970s as a tool to protest race discrimination. Other topics include the collapse of the apartheid, graffiti as vandalism, and the culture of protest.
