- Title
"Some Wonder in This Handkerchief": Magic, Early Modern Good Medicine, and Othello's Strange Difference.
- Authors
Kumamoto, Chikako D.
- Abstract
The article explores magic, early good medicine and strange difference of fictitious character Othello. The character is said to have compared his handkerchief's supposed powers and purity and the embalmed ventricles of the human heart. The author thinks Othello supports his knowledge of magic assimilated from the Naseoplatonic-inflected Christian love being objectified by the maternal handkerchief. Othello considers magic as the knowledge of spiritual physiology, that is spiritually manifested by the handkerchief.
