- Abstract
In international commerce, field in which arbitration has its stronger focus, the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards is of the outmost importance, given that is very common that an arbitral award has to be enforced in several jurisdictions. The 1958 New York Convention deals precisely with this matter aiming to standardize the rules about the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards across the globe. Currently, 157 countries have signed this convention, Portugal and Mozambique are among them and Angola has recently expressed its intention to sign it, however Cape Verde has not given this important step. This article aims to give a brief comparative perspective between the rules in force in Portugal and in these three Portuguese-speaking countries (Angola, Cape Verde and Mozambique) in what concerns the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.
