- Abstract
The historiography of the German Nobility is still dominated by works on the 19th century or concern the resistance against Hitler and National Social is min the movement of 20 July 1944. By using Heinz Gollwitzer's concept of a typology of the princes who were former immediate to the Empire (Standesherren), the article suggests to investigate new types of male and female noble behaviour around 1900. Three types of noble strategies become the focus of attention: Noble girls who attend schools of domestic science (Wirtschaftliche Frauenschulen), new founders of entailed estates (Fideikommisse), and a changing pattern of noble charity practises. Thereby it is shown how at least parts of the German nobility adapt to the conditions of modern life.
