CERAMIC ARTIFACTS.
Abstract
The article discusses the production of ceramic vessels and figurines from fired clay material by American Indian populations after the Paleo-Indian and Archaic periods. It takes note of the discovery of pottery sherds from the Early Woodland period in the Midwest as well as of instances of the tempering process applied by Florida and Georgia potters. Pot morphology, varieties and decorative techniques are discussed in addition to the emergence of effigies in the Late Woodland period.
