- Abstract
This article discusses a case of anaphylaxis in a 44-year-old Chinese woman who consumed oat milk latte. The woman experienced symptoms such as urticaria, angioedema, and transient loss of consciousness. Investigations revealed that she had a positive IgE response to oats and other allergens, but she had no previous issues with seafood or coffee. The article also highlights the emerging trend of oat milk as a popular plant-based milk alternative and the potential risk of oat allergy, especially in individuals with atopic dermatitis who use oat-based emollients. Cross-reactivity with other cereals, such as wheat, was observed in some cases. The authors suggest that the increasing consumption of oat products and the use of oat-based skin products may contribute to the development of oat allergy.
