- Title
Growth Momentum Slows in Asia.
- Abstract
This article discusses slowing expansion of economic growth in Asia. In the first half of 2004, economic growth in many Asian countries hit highs unseen in recent years. This was likely to be the peak of the cycle as the latest data releases indicate a slowdown in growth momentum during the third quarter in almost all countries in Asia. With rising commodity prices, inflation across Asia has seen steady increases in the last year. Inflationary pressures appeared strongest in China with annual consumer price inflation rising from an average of 1.2 per cent in 2003 to 5.3 per cent by August this year. Hong Kong, which was still mired in deflation in May this yea; saw its CPI inflation rise to 1.4 per cent per annum in August 2004.
