- Abstract
In this paper we examine the issue of the social and political citizenship of elderly women with reference to the concept of active aging and the “activation" logic that underlies it. After presenting this frame of reference, we set out some of the ways in which Marshall's model of modern citizenship, among others, has been deconstructed with respect to the inclusion of women and other social groups on the margins of the classical conceptions of citizenship. Lastly, we discuss the theoretical foundations of empirical citizenship, anchored in the diverse realities of the day-today practices that characterize women's active aging, as well as the methodological issues that this perspective raises.
