- Abstract
A literary criticism of the 1771 novel "The Expedition of Humphry Clinker" by Scottish author Tobias Smollett is presented. A particular focus is given to the portrayal of husbandry in the novel. The symbolic significance of a small group of gentlemen farmers presented in the novel is explored, as well as the novel's representation of many aspects of the traditional georgic program.
