- Abstract
The article focuses on the management of stranded marine mammals. Three alternatives were prescribed for a mammal that has survived the stranding and exceeded the health assessment, such as euthanasia, placement for long-term public display and releasing back into the wild. Marine mammal laboratories that conduct studies requiring long-term captive care had stranded animals as source of subjects. It is suggested that for animals to be judged healthy, they must be placed in Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
