- Authors
Dreijer, Gijs
- Abstract
Haubner argues, with some care, that one could speak of an ancient I lex mercatoria i ; here, he refers to some literature on the medieval and early modern period where the debate over the (non-) existence of the I lex mercatoria i has primarily been taking place. For maritime historians interested in topics like marine insurance, Chapter 8 (for Chapter 7, see above) contains an exceptionally insightful discussion about whether the I lex Rhodia i can be considered a precursor to marine insurance. The best part of this chapter is the discussion on whether the I lex Rhodia i was already starting to include new rules alongside jettison - something that Haubner argues is not the case (161-2).
