- Abstract
As an emerging treatment modality for cancer, photodynamic therapy has received widespread attention and gained important progress. However,its further application in cancer treatment is limited due to the lack of ideal photosensitizers and light sources, insufficient tumor tissue penetration and tumor hypoxia environment. From the aspects of aUeviating and utilizing tumor hypoxic microenvironment, in this review we systemically summarize novel strategies of antitumor photodynamic therapy, including increasing blood perfusion, tumor oxygen delivery, intratumoral oxygen production and combined use of bioreductive prodrugs. This review provides a new thinking and direction for the further development and clinical application of antitumor photodynamic therapy.
