- Title
Los franciscanos en Guatemala: una evangelización inculturada.
- Authors
Frison, Bruno Renato
- Abstract
This article discusses the process of the evangelization of indigenous peoples of Guatemala by Franciscan monks throughout the colonial era, from the 16th century to the 19th century. The author traces the history of the evangelization efforts via inculturation, which was a specific method of teaching Christianity to indigenous populations. The use of audio-visual techniques, such as artwork, music, and dance, to attract the natives is explored. The author contends that the natives were not forced to convert to Christianity, but many did due to these unique methods used by the Franciscans.
