- Abstract
Atatürk has given great importance to relations with the public, made occasional trips to every corner of Anatolia and known public problems better than every one. In order to understand the needs of his nation, Atatürk enters to search his nations, listens their request with great pleasure, and tries to perform it. Atatürk began his trips since proclamation of the Rebuplic (1923). However, there were some purposes of these trips. These were to meet public closely, to Exchange ideas and undertake some initiatives, to find solutions to the issues of the country and to see the status of the Turkish Army since the last victory. It was observed that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was seriously disturbed. However, he made Eastern Trip. While having gone on his recent trip to Eastern Anatolia on 12 November 1937, Atatürk first went to Sivas with a special train alongside Prime Minister Celal Bayar, the Interior Minister Şükrü Kaya, Public Works Minister Ali Çetinkaya, Sabiha Gökçen and some others, then he moved to Çetinkaya, and then he visited Malatya, Diyarbakır and after a variety of views he finally entered Elazığ on 17 November 1937. With every aspect, this trip provided great benefits. While people from Malatya, Elazığ, Diyarbakır and surroundings were financially and emotionally feeling happy, along with those in the delegations also had taken lessons in many aspects and had given great experience. Despite being sick on this trip, Atatürk was tirelessly among the citizens, followed their concerns and aspirations closely. These activities were as important as the sacrifices he had made during the War of Independence.
