- Abstract
The article discusses Catarina, a Spanish slave to Catherine of Aragon, who travelled to England with Catherine when she wed prince Arthur and later hist brother, King Henry VIII. She was born in Motril, Granada, most probably as a Moor and enslaved by the Catholic Spanish conquerors. It is likely she was a Christian convert, she adopted her mistress's name, and was one of the 60 servants who moved to England. She was in charge of making Catherine's bed and providing other services. She married a Moorish crossbow-maker called Oviedo and returned to Spain. She was the only witness who could verify whether Catherine had consummated her marriage to Arthur.
