- Abstract
This article presents and discusses one of the communications written in English, sent to Philosophical Magazine by the French physicist Louis de Broglie, in 1924, entitled "A tentative theory of light quanta". In this work de Broglie brings a synthesis of the ideas treated in three other articles published in French and proposes the elaboration of a dualistic theory for light as an explanation for many phenomena that could not be correctly explained by the wave and corpuscular theories if isolated. In addition to discussing results already known to the scientific community of his time, de Broglie's works present totally original ideas and had already contained concepts that are crucial for explaining many phenomena known today (e.g. laser). We believe that this material can serve as a support for the discussion of the main aspects of de Broglie's initial works, since some of his ideas are still adopted today and are part of the contents of modern and contemporary physics.
