- Abstract
The pain of severe depression that can lead to suicide is unimaginable to those who have not suffered it, and the rates of suicide in middle age and older men have been steadily increasing. Communication is a key protective factor to prevent suicide, and men communicate well in groups with other men. This article showcases a San Francisco-based model suicide prevention program which has, for more than 40 years, provided an outlet for those who need someone to listen to, and which has saved lives in the process.
