Rabbi Dr Israel Porush (1907-91) was Australia's leading rabbi in the middle of the twentieth century. This article sets out his intellectual and religious biography, examines his theological positions on key questions: God and Jewish law, secular education, relations with Reform Judaism, Zionism, interfaith work and finally looks at his feelings of pessimism about the Jewish scene.
