The author explores how the sociolinguistic variation in both social and mass media influenced language ideology in post-1989 Bulgaria. Topics discussed include the link between democratization, media, and language ideology, the significant contribution of the Internet in the publication of vernacular language in the 1990s, and observations on the thematic vowel of the Bulgarian verbal system.
