- Title
Lineages of Romanian Cultural Protectionism: From the "Great Debate" to the Protochronists.
- Authors
Crowder, Ashby
- Abstract
The article presents an examination of the Romanian protochronism literary movement of the 1970s and 1980s and explores to what extent the literary movement was an extension of the political debates of the interwar period regarding the future of the country. It argues that the two movements were separate and were characterized by different elements specific to their periods. It examines the popularity of traditionalism during the interwar period and places protochronism within the context of the country's late communist period.
