- Abstract
This paper aims to draw general framework of the Imamate institution during Ottoman Period, excepting imams working at the Royal Mosques. Thereby it focuses on the main features of the Imams, who gained a very important position in the Islamic communities since the early periods of Islam, such as their statutes, credentials, assignments, responsibilities, education, entitlements, incomes etc. These titles will be handled throughout the paper in two main chapters, namely conceptual background and imams in the Ottoman Empire, and several subchapters within them.
