- Abstract
The Lucy Gonzalez Parsons Apartments in Chicago is a seven-story affordable housing complex that was built using precast concrete. The project utilized prefabricated elements such as hollow-core floors, structural wall panels, and precast concrete stairs, which allowed for efficient production and accelerated construction timelines. The apartments feature unique architectural elements, including faceted precast concrete panels and custom-stained coloring. Prefabricated concrete was chosen for its structural integrity, sound resistance, and low maintenance requirements. The project faced challenges due to limited site access, but phased construction and strategic planning helped minimize disruptions to the neighborhood.
