- Title
Composite Substances as True Wholes: Toward a Modified Nyāya-Vaişeṣika Theory of Composite Substances.
- Authors
KRONEN, JOHN; TUTTLE, JACOB
- Abstract
The article discusses the theory of composite substances of the Nyāya-Vaiśeṣika school, an orthodox school composed of philosophers of Indian thought. It compares the theory with Aristotle's definition of a substance as expressed in his "Categories" as well as the theory's advantages over the latter. It explores several concepts of the theory, such as category inherence. It also discusses the evanescence objection on the theory and the modification made to such theory.
