- Authors
Marchart, Oliver
- Abstract
The article presents information on the announcement of Austria's conservative People's Party that it would build a coalition with the ultra-right Freedom Party. The shockwave was spread through the media worldwide. The event has constituted a historic event in the European political landscape. The conservative People's Party is the strongest party on the extreme Right in Europe. In the general election in October 1999, the party got nearly 27 percent of the votes. Also, Austria's entrance into the European Union and the globalisation of capital led to a slow fading-out of corporatism.
