- Title
THE ART OBJECT.
- Authors
Savedoff, Barbara E.
- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of attention to the art object to the interpretation of the works discussed by art critics Arthur Danto and Timothy Binkley. Danto assumes that seeing an object as an art work reduces it to one of its possible descriptions. Binkley's assumption is that a description can fully encompass a non-aesthetic art work's artistically relevant features. Inattention to the object can be found in contemporary art criticism, leading the critic away from an attention to the work itself.
