- Authors
HUNTER, ANGELA N.
- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented of the book "Lettre à d'Alembert sur les spectacles," by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Of particular note is Rousseau's personal life and love and its effect on his text. His ideas about how love on the stage impacts the audience are also considered. Rousseau's comments on the state of the theater in France are analyzed as is his analysis of the play "Bérénice," by Jean Racine.
