- Abstract
This paper proposes that reading, developed in a systematic way and contextualized in the educational processes, helps achieve social appropriation of knowledge in science and technology besides generating spaces for technological literacy, and enabling greatly the formation of citizenship. And finally, so that reading achieves its full development as a learning activity, it allows reaching high levels of technoscientific culture and democratization. Therefore, science and technology should be read as means for civic literacy and for the dissemination of technological and scientific knowledge as requirements to achieve scientific education in and for civility.
