- Abstract
Only a few empirical studies about "Weekend College" programs have appeared in the academic literature. Indeed, an extensive literature review revealed only a small number of publications about any aspect of the "Weekend College" concept. A Google search of college/ university "Weekend College" programs, however, revealed that hundreds of institutions have existing programs. Merely an handful of these institutions acknowledged that the decision to launch their "Weekend College" programs was based on pragmatic research. To assist a college's leadership team in making a decision to implement a "Weekend College," a questionnaire was created to ascertain if a "Weekend College" was desired by the service area's residents. Questionnaires were distributed on campus, at local businesses and at a regional mall yielding 505 useable responses. The results of the survey showed that a "Weekend College" was desired and that the "best" target market was single Caucasian women living with parents more than 20 miles from the College, who had little college training and were working full-time earning $15,000 to $24,999 per year.
