- Abstract
The large exploration without the proper care, the inappropriate management techniques and the lack of reposition led the native species A. angustifolia, the tallest conifer of the country, to be endangered nowadays. The present study aims to analyze the distribution of Araucaria angustifolia regarding the breast height diameter (BHD) of its individuals. The area of study is located in the São Joaquim National Park, city of Urubici, state of Santa Catarina, where height and BHD data from 140 individuals from this species were collected and calculated, from these data, their volume and basal area. The data were analyzed with the ArcGis® software through spatial clustering analysis and spatial autocorrelation. The application of spatial analysis techniques is being utilized to understand the growth and development of forest species, allowing the establishment of the stages of the forest management. The results allowed to observe that due to the high coefficient of variation of the studied variables, and of the grouping analysis there is high competition between the individuals. The analysis of clusters indicated that individuals with higher DAP occurred in sites with fewer neighbors, thus, less competition between individuals, higher incident radiation rate, and thus, better development, showing itself as an adequate technique for similar studies.
