The article discusses the marketing of Willa Cather's literary work in the early twentieth century. The author focuses on Cather's decision to switch publishers for her novel "Claude / One of Ours" from Houghton Mifflin to Alfred Knopf. The author chronicles Cather's perception that Knopf did a better job of advertising their literary titles in the popular and scholarly press. The author states that Cather wanted a more enthusiastic presentation of her work in advertisements, whereas Mifflin's ads were more formal and refined.
