- Abstract
The article discusses the flood of 1862 in Santa Clara, Utah. The effects of the flood on Mormon and Paiute Indian settlements are discussed. Disputes surrounding the actual dates of the Santa Clara flood are reviewed, noting that some local historians believe the flood to have began on January 1, 1862, while others claim that it began on January 17. The settlement of Santa Clara is discussed, mentioning the Swiss immigrants who moved there to raise cotton, figs, olives, and grapes. The author also presents several survival stories of residents of Santa Clara.
