- Abstract
The article focuses on the June 15, 2011 Vancouver riot and how online social network Facebook was used to identify riot suspects. The authors explain that the riots broke out after the Canadian hockey team Vancouver Canucks lost the ice hockey club trophy Stanley Cup, discuss how the the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) utilized the Facebook page "Vancouver Riot Pics: Post Your Photos," and explore the concept of crowdsourcing. They also analyze the growing relationship between law enforcement and online social media.
