- Abstract
The article reports on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), a form of psychotherapy, to treat generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Most CBT packages share essential components which include psychoeducation, self-monitoring and relaxation. The need to augment CBT strategies is discussed so as to enhance the 50% improved functioning in patients. Innovative treatments for GAD include metacognitive therapy (MCT), massed worry exposure and well-being therapy (WBT). The need to identify the beneficial components of each treatment is suggested.
